Syntagma Arquitectura FIRM PROFILE
Syntagma Arquitectura is an architecture and design built firm founded in 1996 by Federico Escalante, with locations in San Jose, Costa Rica and Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Syntagma Arquitectura works closely with clients to produce architectural excellence. S.A. design follows tree principals: first – what the site wants to be, second – what the projects wants to be and third – what design wants to be. Through these principals, SA has been producing a wide range of projects in the last years, ranging from residential projects, residential renovations, commercial projects and renovations, exhibition design, furniture design to Condominium design and Hotel design. S.A. being a design/built firm maintains a creative dialogues between design, building process and materials, this last one being on constant investigations.
Syntagma Architectura has been selected for a series of awards including Young Architects by Su Casa Magazine and has also received honorable mentions by the Veritas Biennale for the submissions of an Urban Recovery Building renovated into a Veterinary Clinic and a high end House.
Federico Escalante is the head Principal of SA, with two architects on Staff, one Interior Designer and four architectural drafters.

Federico Escalante was born in San Jose Costa Rica. He started his professional studies in both Business Administration and Architecture at the Universidad Veritas in San Jose. In 1989, he was accepted to continue his studies in Architecture at Kansas State University. He got degrees in Architecture and Interior Architecture from KSU and soon after his graduation; he went back to his native Costa Rica and started practice with predominant architect Max Teran. After only 8 months of working in Conceptos Arquitectonicos primarily in private residences and small commercial, he opened his own firm in 1996, Syntagma Arquitectura. His projects range from private houses to commercial to condominiums and hotels. He has currently design more than one hundred projects.
He received his masters in Architecture from Kansas State University and perused his Doctorate Degree at the Scuola Leonardo Da Vinci in Florence Italy where he taught for several years. He also taught at Universidad del Diseño in Costa Rica, Texas A&M University, University of Colorado and Kansas State University.
